Bug 11032596 add character limit in F4101

HI I would like to add to the enhancement request for bug 11032596 to extend the number of characters in the F4101 Item master desc 1 and desc 2 fields as they are limited to 30 characters and is often not enough space.

Oracle has stated they have no plans to implement this enhancement.

I could not find the enhancenment request to add to?

I agree that additional characters are needed
for item descriptions.  I was talking to a developer and he
indicated that he had created a custom description file for one of
his clients to resolve the issue of the limited F4101 description
characters. Another option that he mentioned was utilizing the
alternate description fields.

I agree with Jim about adding your company to the bug. While in a perfect world, the description fields would not be limited, in reality, JDE/Oracle needed to draw the line somewhere. I wish you luck in moving this request forward but the impact of extending these fields is so enormous that I don't think it is feasible for Oracle to make the change. Perhaps you could describe your business case for needing more than 60 characters in your item description and someone in the community can point you to a solution that would meet your needs.

If you haven't done so already, I suggest you enter an Oracle Service Request to have your company added to bug 11032596.

I don't see a similar enhancement request to Quest's Enhancement Tool.  You can create one, and then see if members of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Manufacturing and Distribution Group would also be interested in that enhancement.
